Smarter Online Search
Cut Thru Online Clutter & Get Your Brand Noticed
Brands face a tsunami of online clutter that is loud, confusing and distracting to their target audience.
Shlomo Benartzi’s new book, The Smarter Screen makes the point that being successful in business in the past was about “owning real estate and oil wells”, but today it’s the companies that own consumers’ attention that are destined for success [TIME Magazine Vol 186, No. 14].
Everyday I get up and my #1 job is to help really smart, busy people people navigate the digital landscape.
Questions I often ask are ~
WHO are you trying to reach online?
What do you want people TO DO when they land on your website?
Answers lead to the right fit web development plan and strategy. Sounds simple I suppose? hardly………
Considerations for your online brand building strategy:
Start thinking like the people trying to FIND YOU.
The truth is, Google doesn’t care about you or your business. Google cares about directing people to the best information and resources on the Web. Start thinking like an online searcher instead of a business selling something.
Talk about your real business value in your marketing and leave the puff speak behind.
Smarter online search outcomes result when you’ve published content that people need and want to consume. People are less interested in you saying how great your product or service is, and more pulled in by engaging stories and media that show your value. If you feature people like them, all the better because there’s your social proof.
Make it easy and fun for people to consume your content. If you’re not being helpful, relevant and original, no one is going to pay attention. Amplify your message by inviting people to spread your content on the Web is also important.
Go big with visual content in 2016!
Social Media Examiner Michael Stelzner‘s podcast shared these insights:
- People can process visual content 60,000 times faster than text.
- 90% of all information transmitted to the brain is visual.
- 65% of People are visual leaners.
- Retention rates are reported as follows ~
- People retain 80% of what they SEE
- People retain 20% of what they READ
- People retain 10% of what they HEAR
I have no idea if these statistics are empirically proven, but they back up everything I see happening the front line of digital marketing today.
It’s time to look ahead to 2016 marketing investments & place a higher priority on Brand Photography and Brand Videography. Make it a line item in your budget & ensure your content is compelling and shareable.
